The chamomile plant is very popular as a flowering plant, and essential oils are extracted from two varieties as follows:

Roman Chamomile Essential Oil scientifically known as Anthemis Nobilis

German Chamomile Essential Oil scientifically known as Matricaria Chamomilla

Although the essential oils extracted from both varieties are similar in some medical properties, their composition is different

Roman Chamomile essential oil is more calming and works as a better emmenagogue

German Chamomile essential oil is a very powerful anti-inflammatory agent due the compound called azulene

The properties listed below include those of both Roman Chamomile as well as German Chamomile unless otherwise stated

Both varieties induce perspiration, which helps to remove toxins that cause infections while simultaneously cooling down the body and effectively providing relief from fever, therefore serving as a febrifuge (medicine used to reduce fever)
